ASHISH KHADKA, AS LEVEL, RATO BANGALA SCHOOL
Nepal has seen rapid change in its political sector since its unification in the 18th Century. Nepal’s history tells us about the various regimes and rulers. Nepal has lived through the rule of monarchs and dictators to the period of democracy today achieved by the sacrifice of the Nepali people, which today is at stake.
After monarchy was abolished and the CA elections was held in the year 2008, we could see the faces of new political leaders. They seemed enthusiastic and eventually won the trust of the people. Every Nepali citizen was really anxious about what changes they would bring. But Nepalis in general have not seen any change — forget about enjoying the actual boon of democracy. One of the remarkable changes is the end of the 10-year-long Maoist insurgency which had taken lives of thousands.
Since the election and formation of the government under ex-prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, we have seen frequent changes in government. But the demands and hopes of people rarely fulfiled. Crime has spread its arm across the country and many government officials have drenched their hands with corruption. The major developmental projects faced delays.
Even when the country was awaiting an election a few days back, Nepal faced strikes — tourists vehicles were bombed, people’s representatives were attacked, public and private properties were vandalised and general people’s life was in danger.
Is such a situation created because people lack love for the nation? Are people only concerned about themselves?
The day is not far when our country will be destroyed — the glorious past will remain just a history So, oh lord! Please save my nation before it is too late.
