Hi sajhaites,

I am currently a permanent resident, and I expect to apply for my US citizenship soon. My longtime fiancee is in Nepal. I understand that the easiest and fastest way for me to bring her here would be for me to first become a citizen and then sponsor her.

My questions are
1) Would it make any difference if I get married after/before I apply?
a) does it complicate my own application process if I am not single?
b) would it help speed up the process when I sponsor her later?

2) How long is the wait between the time I get my citizenship and when she can actually come to the US? I've heard that it can take up to 6 months? I've also heard that the process is immediate.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could shed some light here. THank you in advance.

1.Casper it wouldnt matter if u get married before or after.
a. No it is not that complicate as long as u go thru with processing.
b. if u became citizen and if u will file her, it will take 6mth but once u file her she can apply for visiting visa to see her husband (You). for that it will take 2-3mth.

2. it will take not more than 6mth to become citizen.

One of my friends has gone through this process, His Fiance is from Thailand. He started the immigration process in late februrary and she came in the US in late June. It took them only 4 months to tie the knot.
But if you are thinking of applying her/him as US citizen's spouce then the case is different. At that case, she/he can't come here in US as a visitor the only option is as an imigrant.which normally takes longer than the Fiance Visa process.

good-Luck
